Ayurveda – The knowledge of life
"Ayurveda is knowledge that tells us which activities and habits are suitable or unsuitable for each individual, what will create satisfaction or unhappiness and what will help each of us to live a long and satisfying life".
Ayurveda is an ancient medical system from India which, when translated from Sanskrit, means "the science of life".
A Dosha, according to the Ayurveda tradition, is one of three bodily types that make up one's physical and mental constitution. The central concept of Ayurvedic medicine is the theory that optimal health exists when there is a balance between the three fundamental bodily types or doshas. These doshas are referred to as Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Ayurvedic practitioners believe that these ancient ideas exist in harmony with each individual's physical reality. These Ayurvedic concepts allow practitioners to examine the homeostasis of an individual's whole system. A person may be of a predominant Dosha or constitution, but all Doshas share each of the three basic elements within each other.
